The Fight of my Life

The Fight of my Life

By now some have heard my story. Back in August of 2020 I contacted Covid-19 and died of it. That’s right, died. I flatlined and was barely revived. I arrived at the ER with Full organ failure and septic shock. I had less than a 0.01% chance of living.

What would follow is one of the most miraculous recoveries ever told. But my recovery efforts wasn’t just me alone. It was by the grace and will of God who gave me the strength I needed to go on. It was also the wonderful team of medical staff at Sutter Delta whom I dearly owe my life to.

It truly took an amazing team of dedicated hospital staff that cared for me when I was at my absolute worst. I will be putting up a video soon about this talking more in-depth but I just wanted to get this out beforehand. It pains me to see that many of them go unnoticed and unrecognized.

Remember they are people too with their own trials and tribulations they are going through. Can you imagine what they see daily? Putting their very own lives at risk for us? Covid hit us all very hard. It fundamentally changed everything. Will things ever be normal again? Well yes, eventually but they will be different in a sense. So when you see a Doctor or a Nurse or a Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant give them thanks. I couldn’t have made a full recovery without the amazing people who guided and took care of me. Dr. Brewer thank you for doing everything in your power for keeping me alive during those crucial first minutes and hours.

Nurse Doug thank you for cleaning me and keeping me “cool” when my fever ran high in the ICU. To Nurse Brenda who cared for me in the ICU thank you for all that you did for me. Nurse Rose thank you for always being so sweet. Nurse Sam, who went out of her way a few times to request to be my nurse. I will NEVER forget you, the things you did for me, and the wonderful poster you made for me. To my speech therapist Lisa who helped me regain my voice. I’m sure I sounded crazy doing those speech thingies you showed me. But hey now my voice is fully back to normal again!

Janice my Occupational therapist who helped me regain my motor functions. Hey I’m putting on my own socks now and most importantly Jen who helped me regain my legs again. Thank you for believing in me and reigniting the fire inside me. So people see. Sure my faith was unwavering. However, God puts the right people in our lives when we need them most. Without these wonderful people and believe me, there are many more I wouldn’t be here where I am at today.

So when you see someone or if you have a friend who works as a caregiver celebrate them. Show them you care and that you truly appreciate the hard work they put in risking their very lives for us.

It’s easy to disregard what they do when our emotions compromise us. Remember it takes a team and village of individuals; a viable support system to achieve greatness.

While there is an I in I CAN there is no I in TEAM!! This was a full TEAM effort and I am truly gifted and thankful to call some of them friends!
